On 16 March 2026, Mrs. Chonlatee Chanrachakul, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore, welcomed a delegation from the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection, Ministry of Justice of Thailand, led by Mr. Triyarith Temahivong, Director-General of the Department. The delegation was on a study visit to Singapore to learn about alternative justice system, particularly mediation system, with a view to revising the Mediation Act and relevant subsidiary legislation, as well as enhancing Thailand’s mediation system and institutions.
On this occasion, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., together with Mr. Kitjawat Tacharoen, Counsellor, provided a briefing on Singapore’s political structure, legislative process, judicial framework, and alternative justice system, with particular emphasis on dispute resolution mechanisms. The discussion also included an exchange of views on social development and the protection of vulnerable groups, reflecting policy approaches that take into account the broader national context.
The Director-General also shared information on the roles and responsibilities of the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection, as well as Thailand’s approach to developing its mediation system. In addition, the delegation highlighted the benefits gained from visits to various Singaporean agencies, including the Ministry of Law (MinLaw), the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC), and the Community Mediation Centre (CMC). The knowledge acquired will be used to enhance Thailand’s mediation system and strengthening governance in the long term.
