DIVORCE REGISTRATION AT THE ROYAL THAI EMBASSY IN SINGAPORE

The Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore may assist with divorce registration in both cases: divorce by mutual consent of both spouses, and registration of divorce pursuant to a court order or court judgment.

Where one party is in Thailand and the other party resides in Singapore, the process may be carried out through different registration offices. The procedure must first be initiated with a registration office in Thailand.

1. Divorce by Mutual Consent

Where both spouses agree to divorce but cannot appear together at the same registration office because one spouse is in Thailand and the other resides in Singapore, the divorce may be processed through different registration offices.

Procedure

Step 1: The party in Thailand contacts a registration office

The spouse who is in Thailand must first contact the relevant District Office / Amphoe / Registration Office in Thailand and inform the registrar that the parties wish to proceed with a divorce through different registration offices.

The registration office in Thailand will prepare the relevant documents and forward the case to the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore.

Step 2: Wait until the Embassy receives the documents

The spouse residing in Singapore should not come to the Embassy before the Embassy has received the documents from the registration office in Thailand.

Once the documents are received and reviewed, the Embassy will contact the applicant to arrange an appointment.

Step 3: The party in Singapore appears at the Embassy

On the appointment date, the spouse residing in Singapore must appear in person at the Embassy together with two Thai national witnesses.

The spouse and both witnesses will be required to sign the relevant documents in the presence of an Embassy officer.

Step 4: Documents are returned to Thailand

After the procedure at the Embassy has been completed, the documents will be returned to the originating registration office in Thailand for completion of the divorce registration.

2. Divorce Registration Pursuant to a Court Order or Judgment

Where there is a court order or court judgment concerning the divorce, and registration formalities are required while one party is in Thailand and the other party resides in Singapore, the process may also be carried out through different registration offices.

Procedure

Step 1: The party in Thailand contacts the registration office

The party in Thailand must present the relevant court order or judgment and supporting documents to the appropriate District Office / Amphoe / Registration Office in Thailand.

The registrar will review the documents, prepare the required registration documents and forward the case to the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore.

Step 2: The Embassy receives the case

Once the Embassy receives the documents from the registration office in Thailand, the documents will be reviewed and the party residing in Singapore will be contacted to arrange an appointment.

Step 3: The party in Singapore appears at the Embassy

The party residing in Singapore must appear in person together with two Thai national witnesses.

The applicant and the witnesses must sign the relevant documents in the presence of an Embassy officer.

Step 4: Documents are returned to Thailand

After the procedure at the Embassy has been completed, the documents will be returned to the originating registration office in Thailand for further registration formalities.

3. Documents Required from the Applicant in Singapore

On the appointment date, please bring the original documents together with the required copies, including:

1. Thai passport
2. Thai National Identification Card
3. Thai House Registration
4. Proof of legal residence in Singapore, such as Singapore Permanent Resident (PR), Employment Pass, S Pass, Work Permit, Dependant's Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass or Student's Pass
5. Any other supporting documents requested by the Embassy

For a Digital Pass, please print the relevant pass information from Singpass.

4. Witnesses

Two Thai national witnesses are required.

Each witness must bring:

1. Thai passport
2. Thai National Identification Card

together with the required copies.

Both witnesses must appear at the Embassy together with the applicant on the appointment date and sign the relevant documents in the presence of an Embassy officer.

5. Important Information Before Contacting the Embassy

Please do not come to the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore to initiate the divorce registration process directly.

For divorce registration through different registration offices, the process must first be initiated with a registration office in Thailand. The originating registration office will then forward the relevant documents to the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore.

Once the Embassy has received the case, the applicant will be contacted to arrange an appointment.
