On 13 May 2014 at 19.00 hrs., Mr. Marut Jitpatima, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, and his spouse, Mrs. Jiraporn Jitpatima, along with Team Thailand staff attended the Vesak Day ceremony at Wat Ananda Metyarama Thai Buddhist Temple. Over 1,500 Buddhists in Singapore took part in the event. Vesak Day or Wisakha Bucha in Thai is widely observed in several countries to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha in the Theravada Buddhist tradition.

Officially opened on 5 January 2014 by Ms. Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State for Law and Education following an extensive renovation and completion of a new building that houses the monks abode, Dhamma Hall, Meditation Hall, and a cultural centre, Wat Ananda Metyarama, the oldest Theravada Buddhist Temple in Singapore, was founded by Venerable Luang Phor Hong Dhammaratano (Phra Dhammaratano Bandit) in 1925. The temple is now headed by Venerable Chao Khun Phra Tepsiddhivides, Chief Abbot.

The Royal Thai Embassy, through Ambassador Marut Jitpatima, earlier donated SGD 5,000 as contribution to the construction of the new building in September 2013.
