H.E. Marut Jitpatima, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, joined the Thai Labour Day Event at Kallang Riverside Park on 1 May 2013. The event was organised by Thailand’s Office of Labour Affairs, in cooperation with the Royal Thai Embassy and other Team Thailand agencies, the Friends of Thai Labour Association, the private sector, and several Singapore’s governmental agencies.
Approximately 1,500 Thai workers gather at this event, which had the objectives of raising awareness on the importance and contribution that Thai labour in Singapore made in various ways, and to present the opportunity for Thai workers to gather and receive useful information from various activities on the day, including the Embassy’s Mobile Consular Service, healthcare check-up service by Thai medical doctors, the Office of Labour Affairs’ consultation service on workers’ rights in Singapore, as well as various activities by Singapore’s agencies, including Singapore Police, Immigration and Checkpoints Authorities and Ministry of Manpower, which aimed to educate Thai workers on Singapore’s law and enforcement. The Royal Thai Embassy also supported the event by contributing SGD 1,000 for souvenirs and 50 bags of Thai rice to be distributed to Thai workers, as well as a trophy for the Sepak Takraw Competition which took place on the day.
On this occasion, Ambassador of Thailand addressed to the Thai workers, commending their roles comparable to ‘representatives’ of Thailand while living overseas, and hence, they should build up reputation for the country while living in Singapore. At the closing ceremony, Ambassador also presented certificates to all public and private agencies that contributed towards organising this meaningful event, as well as presenting a trophy for the Sepak Takraw Competition’s winning team.
