On 2 June 2025, H.E. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, welcomed Mr. Eduardo Pedrosa, Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), during his courtesy call to introduce himself upon his assumption of duty. Both sides held discussions on several important issues, including ASEAN’s role in the global geopolitical landscape, ASEAN centrality, and ASEAN–APEC cooperation.

The Ambassador emphasized that ASEAN remains important and attractive in today’s global context and should actively engage with APEC, especially on emerging issues such as artificial intelligence (AI), where regulations often lag behind rapid technological advancement. The APEC Executive Director agreed and noted that although economies may adopt different approaches to regulatory framework, APEC places priority on ensuring that regulatory systems across economies are interoperable. Both parties also emphasised the importance of engaging the business sector and the younger generation within the APEC framework. In addition, the Ambassador expressed appreciation to the APEC Secretariat for its support of the APEC BCG Award - an initiative proposed by Thailand - and reiterated the vital role of technology in advancing sustainable development.
