On 5 December 2013, 18.30 hrs, the Royal Thai Embassy, Singapore, hosted the Reception to Celebrate the 86th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and the National Day Reception of Thailand, at Tower Ballroom, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. The event was joined by H.E. Mr. Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport, as the Guest of Honour. It was also joined by approximately 500 guests, including Ms. Ellen Lee, MP for Sembawang GRC, Dr. Chia Shi-Lu, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, Maj. Gen. Hoo Cher Mou, Chief of Air Force of the Republic of Singapore, high-level representatives from various organisations and agencies in Singapore, Ambassadors and diplomats, as well as representative from the Thai private sector and the Thai community in Singapore.

On this occasion, Ambassador of Thailand delivered a speech on His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s life-time dedication to the peoples of Thailand, which is widely recognised by the global community, as well as close ties of bilateral relations between Thailand and Singapore, which dated back to the last century and will be further strengthened in the future. In response to Ambassador of Thailand’s speech, H.E. Mr. Lui Tuck Yew reaffirmed the close relationship between the two countries, including exchange of visits, as well as economic and social cooperation. On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Lui Tuck Yew proposed a toast to continued good health and vitality of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The event featured a special exhibition on His Majesty the King’s biography, his Royal Projects, and his life-time dedication to the peoples of Thailand, with a book of well wishing for our guests to sign. It also included the Chiang Mai’s umbrella painting demonstration, presented by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Singapore Office, as well as a live music show by the Bangkok Mini Groovy Band, which represented a perfect combination of Thai “khim” (Thai hammered dulcimer) and western musical instruments. The reception was complemented with the finest selection of Thai food from Ambassador’s Residence and the Thai Chef Association in Singapore.
