The Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore, in collaboration with the Thai Association in Singapore, hosted a seminar on "Sending Money Home: What Every Thai in Singapore Must Know"
On 21 August 2026, H.E. Mrs. Waraphannee Damrongmanee, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Singapore, presided over the opening ceremony of the Annual Legal Seminar 2026 titled “Sending Money Home: What Every Thai in Singapore Must Know” at the Royal Thai Embassy. The seminar aimed to promote legal literacy and understanding of local regulations among the Thai community. The event drew over 100 Thai residents from diverse backgrounds, including business owners, workers, housewives, students, corporate professionals, and spouses. This year, the Embassy welcomed four legal and tax experts as guest speakers to share crucial insights on wire transfers, taxation, and related fees. The four panelists were (1) Mr. Saravut Krailadsiri, Partner and Head of Tax Practice, Tilleke & Gibbins Thailand (2) Mr. Mark Kuratana, Tax Partner, Global Employer Services, Deloitte Thailand (3) Ms. Lee Joanne Li Ling, Tax Partner, Global Employer Services, Deloitte Singapore (4) Mr. It-Kan Kongsuwan, Tax Director, Global Employer Services, Deloitte Thailand, along with Ms. Monrawee Ampolpittayanant, Director, Head of Public Policy, Asia and the Pacific, Tencent, as moderator.
The key takeaways from the Seminar comprised of 3 points: (1) Taxation & Compliance Rules: Clarifying whether transferring funds from Singapore to Thailand is subject to tax and outlining mandatory regulatory compliance procedures. (2) Tax Regulations & Fact-Checking: Essential facts regarding regulatory oversight, official data verification, and distinguishing accurate legal information from misleading or false claims. (3) Interactive Q&A: A direct consultation segment providing participants the opportunity to ask questions and receive expert advice.
Following the seminar, a networking reception was held to allow participants from Thai community across various fields to connect, exchange views and experiences, and strengthen their professional and social ties, as well as to further enhance Thai community solidarity.
