On 29 August 2013, Mr.Marut Jitpatima, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, officiated the Opening of Thai Festival 2013 – “Tambon Thailand” at the Royal Thai Embassy.Mrs. Jiraporn Jitpatima, Madame of the Ambassador, representatives of Team Thailand in Singapore, honoured guests from the diplomatic corps and public and private communities in Singapore attended the Opening Ceremony.
The Royal Thai Embassy consecutively organized the Thai Festivals for the 11th year. This awaited annual event is well received by Singaporeans and tourists and is considered as an important event on the renowned Orchard Road. In 2013, the Thai Festival is featured with “Tambon Thailand” to showcase ONE TAMBON ONE PRODUCT or OTOP products from Thailand. There are 45 OTOP exhibitors in this year event with products ranging from food items, gifts and decorative items, spa products and massage and fashion jewelry. Thai Trade Center in Singapore facilitated the selection of the OTOP exhibitors for the Festival. Thai restaurants in Singapore also participated in the Festival by offering various delicious Thai dishes and join the demonstration hour on the Thai cooking of four interesting dishes from all around Thailand. In addition, Tourism Authority of Thailand sponsored unique performances of Joe Louis Puppet Show, Muay Thai demonstration and Thai xylophone (ra-nad ek) by Thai youngsters. There are also music entertainment from live bands such as “Mosquito” from the Thai Students in the National University of Singapore and “Thai Disco” from the local Golden Mines.
Visitors in the event can win prizes throughout the day through question-answer sessions and “Lucky Draws”. The Grand Prizes are plane tickets with free accommodation in Bangkok and Samui.
Thai Festival 2013 – “Tambon Thailand” was organized from 10.00 – 21.00 hrs on 29 August – 1 September 2013 at the Royal Thai Embassy (Orchard Road).
