On 14 August 2024, H.E. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, and Ms. Arunee Hiam, Deputy Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), represented Thailand as a co-host at the ASEAN + BRICS Roundtables on Global Governance & Sustainable Trade for Food Security at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore.
As a co-host, Thailand played a key role in shaping the discussions. Mrs. Arunee Hiam, a panelist in the discussion on Future Challenges and South-South Collaboration, highlighted the importance of innovation in agriculture, sustainable resource management, inclusive policy frameworks, and global cooperation to tackle the pressing food security challenges of the 21st century.
Thailand also showcased its contributions to global food security, such as the promotion of Riceberry rice, an organic superfood known for its numerous health benefits, as well as other local products like Thai coffee and olive oil tea. These initiatives demonstrate Thailand's commitment to enhancing global nutrition and sustainable agriculture.
