Royal Thai Embassy joined the community to celebrate the Thai New Year “Songkran” in Singapore

On 6 April 2013, Mr. Marut Jitpatima, Ambassador of Thailand, presided at the 2013 Songkran Festival organised by Thai Language Program,
Centre for Language Studies at the National University of Singapore, together with Mrs. Jitpatima and Team Thailand. The event consisted of presentation about Songkran, Thai traditional dance and music performances by Thai and Singaporean students, and ended with the water sprinkling activity. In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador expressed hope that Singaporean will get to experience the interesting facets of Songkran and ending the day with a greater understanding about Thai culture. More than 200 people attended the event including Thai and Singapore students, teachers, family members and Thai community in Singapore.

On 12 April 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy held a traditional Songkran celebration among the Embassy officers and Team Thailand which involved the “Song Nam Phra” or the sprinkling of scented water onto a Buddha image as a gesture of worship and “Rod Nam Dam Hua” or the pouring of scented water into the hands of the revered elders in asking for blessing. On this occasion, the Embassy officers and Team Thailand performed “Rod Nam Dam Hua” with Mr. Marut Jitpatima, Ambassador of Thailand as well as Mr.Nopadol Gunavibool, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore as he was on a visit in Singapore.

On 13 April 2013, Ambassador Marut along with Team Thailand attended Songkran festival at Wat Palelai temple upon the invitation of the Thai
Association (Singapore). Ambassador Marut took part in offering lunch to the monks and had lunch together with the Thai community in Singapore.

On 14 April 2013, Ambassador of Thailand, officiated the Songkran Festival at the Thai Labour Association headquarters, third floor, Golden Mile
Complex, organised for the third time by the Thai Labour Assocation since 2011.The event began with the Ambassador giving a speech and blessing to members of the Thai Labour Association, who have significantly contributedto the strengthening of the Thai Community in Singapore and supporting the work of the Royal Thai Embassy, by carrying out various activities throughout the years, including conducting training courses to improve various skills of its members. This was followed by the water pouring ceremony on the Buddha Image, and members of the Thai Labour Association taking turn to pour water on the Ambassador’s hands, as a part of the Thai New Year tradition to pay a
respect to senior members of the family or the society. On this occasion, the Ambassador also presented certificates to members of
the Association who graduated from the various training courses provided by the Association, including the Fruit Crafting Course, Flower Garland-Making Course, and Male Hair-Cutting Course.
