Thai Ambassador attends opening ceremony of Wat Ananda Metyarama's new building

On Sunday 5 January 2014, H.E. Mr. Marut Jitpatima, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, attended the opening ceremony of the new multi -purpose building of Wat Ananda Metyarama., with Ms. Indranee Thurai Rajah, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Education as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was also attended by about 500 dignitaries, including representatives
from the Inter-Religious Organization (IRO), senior Buddhist monks in Singapore and from Thailand, Buddhist devotees and Tanjong Pagar GRC grassroots leaders. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has graciously named the new building and given permission for the installation of Her Royal Highness’ initials at the 5-storey building, which houses meditation and chanting halls, Dharmma classrooms, a gallery displaying Buddhist artifacts and monks’ living quarters. This new building will help enhance the ability of Wat Ananda Metayarama, which is the oldest Thai temple in Singapore (established since 1923), in disseminating Buddhism to Thais, Singaporeans as well as foreigners in Singapore.
