On 21 July 2025, H.E. Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, welcomed a delegation from the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation (PMCA), led by Dr. Krissanapong Kirtikara, Chairman of the Foundation, together with relevant working teams from Thailand. The delegation paid a courtesy call and held discussions on ways to advance the Foundation’s mission at both regional and international levels, particularly in the context of Singapore and ASEAN member countries. The discussion was joined by Team Thailand, representatives from the Thai private sector in Singapore, representatives from Singapore’s Ministry of Education, as well as Singaporean teachers who have previously received the PMCA.
During the meeting, the PMCA delegation gave a briefing on the Foundation’s mission, which was established to honour Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for her lifelong dedication to improving education and the quality of life for the underprivileged in the region. The Princess Maha Chakri Award is presented biennially to outstanding teachers from ASEAN member countries, Timor-Leste, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Mongolia—totalling 14 countries—in recognition of their exemplary contributions in transforming the lives of students and communities.
Both sides exchanged views on the vital role of teachers in shaping society and regional education systems, as well as the importance of supporting PMCA awardees. They also discussed ways to enhance international understanding and publicity of the Award. Furthermore, ideas were shared on possible collaborations in post-award activities, such as the PMCA Forum, capacity-building initiatives for teachers, and international educational exchange programmes.
Ambassador Ureerat reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting the Foundation’s activities, particularly in connecting teacher networks, promoting awareness of the Award abroad, and strengthening sustainable educational cooperation between Thailand and Singapore.
