On 16 July 2025, H.E. Mrs. Ureerat Charoentoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, hosted a working lunch for a high-level delegation from the Department of Corrections, Ministry of Justice, at the Ambassador's Residence.
The delegation was on a study trip for the project "Thai-Singapore Multicultural Rehabilitation: Towards Sustainable Change from Prison to Community." The objective was to learn about the comprehensive "Throughcare" approach, an integrated model from Singapore that begins with inmate rehabilitation in prison and continues with post-release support in the community. This also includes promoting community acceptance through projects like the Yellow Ribbon Project, and understanding the roles of government agencies and civil society organizations such as the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and the Singapore After-Care Association (SACA).
During the study trip, Thai corrections officials also learned about culturally sensitive practices and mechanisms for reducing recidivism. This presented a valuable opportunity to apply the knowledge gained to adapt and develop correctional management, post-release support, and build stronger integration between the government, civil society, and local communities within the Thai context, particularly in multicultural areas.
