Royal Thai Embassy opens its door for Songkran’s celebration

On 31 March 2024, H.E. Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Singapore, warmly welcomed over 5,000 visitors to the Embassy’s grounds to celebrate UNESCO's inscription of “Songkran in Thailand, traditional Thai New Year festival” as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Ureerat highlighted Songkran festival's multifaceted significance and underscored an implicit call for environmental stewardship, emphasizing the imperative of water conservation in the contemporary global context. Looking ahead, Ambassador Ureerat expressed her commitment to strengthen the enduring friendship and cooperation between Thailand and Singapore, particularly as the 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries is approaching next year.

The success of this event stems from an active collaboration from various entities and partners including the Tourism Authority of Thailand - Singapore Branch Office Thai Trade Center, Singapore, Office of Labour Affairs, National University of Singapore's Thai Language Programme, Thai Association Singapore - สมาคมไทย สิงคโปร์, Thai Labour Volunteer Group, as well as Folk Collective and Baan Beer Thai, the well-known Thai SELECT restaurants, together with Thai Airways, Singha Beer and Chang Beer.

The event was organized not only to enhance people-to-people ties but also to complement the Thai Government's initiative to promote nationwide Songkran Festival for an unprecedented celebration from 1 to 21 April 2024, transforming into a 3-week-long global water festival.
